B Lab EU: Tell us briefly who you are and what your company does? Soulbottles: We are Soulbottles! We make reusable drinking bottles and sustainable accessories with a clear mission: freeing the world of single use and providing water access for everyone! About 2.1 billion people have no safe drinking water and 4.5 billion lack access to basic sanitation services. We’re here to change that: every single soulbottle sold supports water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects around the world - and saves hundreds of kilos of plastic from being produced.
B Lab EU: Why did you decide to become a B Corp? Soulbottles: Soulbottles was founded as a social and sustainable company from day one, so becoming a B Corp was a natural step for us. We are very happy to be among the first German companies of this growing movement and are still very humbled by our “Best for the World” award from last year.
B Lab EU: What does being a B Corp mean to you? Soulbottles: Being a B Corp means doing business the only way it makes sense: with the best possible impact on people and the planet! Business brings a huge opportunity to make a positive change in the world, and we try to harvest this opportunity on a daily basis and constantly improve our operations. Our production has become carbon-neutral, our packaging recycled and we’ve boosted the content of recycled glass to 60-80%. Altogether we estimate that, by refilling their soulbottles, our customers have saved around 90 million plastic bottles from being produced. Furthermore we’ve connected over 52,000 people to clean drinking water, hygiene and sanitation.
B Lab EU: Have you seen business benefits of being a B Corp? Soulbottles: The questions on the B Impact Assessment have highlighted those areas where we can still get better and made us improve our bottom line impact even more. We feel that being a mission-driven company gives us a very positive reputation amongst different stakeholders. We have a strong brand with a very loyal customer base. We work in a collaborative business environment with a wide network of value-aligned partners. Many applicants highlight the impact we have and the B Corp label adds validation to all our activities.
B Lab EU: What are you looking forward to most about the 2019 Summit? Soulbottles: We are especially excited to meet with the whole community of B Corps and think of new ways of collaborating, creating synergies and driving our mission forward. Last year, we really enjoyed the interactive workshops that gave room to work on our own projects and simultaneously connect to others - and of course the very fun dinner on the last night!
B Lab EU: What are your plans for the future to use your business as a force for good? Soulbottles: We want to bring the reusable revolution forward and help many more people to adopt a sustainable lifestyle, ultimately reducing the use of single use and keeping a safe and clean planet for future generations. This also means connecting people at the workplace, at festivals and at home with reusable alternatives, partnering up with big and small organisations and, of course, connecting many more people to clean water and sanitation along the way! Every bottle makes a difference.
B Lab EU: Thank you and look forward to seeing you at the Summit!
